North East Florida Chapter Meeting November 11/17/2016

We hope you are getting ready to have a great holiday season and end of year!

We have planned for the last Chapter meeting of 2016 for Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:30am ET.

We are currently accepting nominations for all board positions for 2016. The positions are President, Secretary,  Treasurer and Membership Chair.  If you are interested in serving on the Board please email the board at board@isc2nefchapter.org and a current Director will be more than happy to discuss details. Elections will be conducted during our first meeting of 2017 which we will announce at a later time.

In our November meeting Dr. Johaness Ullrich, Dean of Research for The SANS Institute will walk us through the presentation and discussion below around IoT.

Title: "The Short Life of an Internet Connected DVR: How the Internet of Things Turns Against Us”

One could call them the mosquitoes of the internet: Small network connected devices that often go unnoticed but can carry devastating infections and take down large systems. Recently network connected security cameras have made headlines for taking down some of the largest sites on the internet. But this is just the tip of the iceberg of the attacks we have been observing for the last couple of years. Similar devices have been used to attack corporate networks, steal data and relay connections to obfuscate the source of attacks. As part of this presentation you will learn what kind of attacks these devices have been exposed to over the last couple of years, what basic vulnerabilities are commonly found in these devices, and how to protect your network from these devices as well as from some of the attacks originating from these devices.

Meeting Location:
Thursday, November 16th, 2016 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM (EDT)
TierPoint Data Centers
TierPoint Data Centers 8324 Baymeadows Way
Jacksonville, FL 32256
Additionally, if you are interested in presenting a topic, hosting a discussion or requesting an agenda item for future Chapter meetings, don't hesitate to send those requests to the Chapter Board via this email address. We are still looking for additional volunteers for the (ISC)² NE Florida Chapter Committees (Meeting Planning, Web & Social Media, and Community Projects). The NE Florida Chapter will be what we make it, so be a part of it.

See you at the meeting!

Best Regards,
